Oregon – Yakima Ultimate 3 Day Weekend Trip

Yakima – Oregon – Ultimate 3 day Weekend — April 21-29 2009

It has been quite awhile since Sub-Par got itself a new trip to broadcast. Having a kid will do that
to a website. Amanda’s overflowing inbox of spam finally paid off – she won Yakima’s Ultimate Three Day Weekend trip! Theory behind this contest is that the weekend should be 3 days long, to give all of us more time to play. I’m down.
Winners of the trip travel to Bend, Oregon, to snowboard (or ski) Mt. Bachelor, mountain bike and kayak, all on Yakima’s dime. Awesomeness. We decided to extend the trip a few days on either side of the weekend to make it more of a holiday for us. We flew into Portland, traveled the coast Oregon down to the Florence area, cut in to Eugene and then on to Bend. Yakima, in their infinite coolness, hooked Manda’s parents up with a cherry rate at the same lodge they put us up at so that they could come enjoy (and watch) their grandson while we gave ourselves bumps, bruises and scrapes.

The Devil’s Punchbowl. Mwah hah hah hah!

Not a bad pic for a 2.5 year old!

The Oregon coast.

Exporing Beverly Beach…

Lost in the rain forest.

Climbing.

Do you see the tree-troll?

The forests here are awesome. More tree-troll.

More Beverly Beach.

Indeed… indeed.

Beverly Beach – the other side.

Chillin’. Seriously. It ain’t warm.

WookieTree.

Prehistoric flowers.

Still more Beverly Beach

Our digs.

Home sweet yurt.

Morning on Beverly Beach.

Rocky shoreline.

And we’re off! A little further down the coast before cutting in towards Eugene. Time to stop and see wild Sea Lionz!

We need smell-o-web so you could appreciate their odiferousness.

“Woah! Cold, yo!”

Sunbathers.

Playing in the surf.

Dogs ride in style.

Snowboarding on Mt. Bachelor!

W00T!

Everyone suiting up.

I can do it… I can do it!

My tailbone begins the torture.

At the top of the run.

WooOOOoo!

On to the mountain biking!

Wooo!

Snow on the trail.

A little air.

The crew prepares.

The moment before John ate it.

Tough enough, he goes for it again with success.

Manda in the back country.

There’s deerz in them back yards!

On to boating!

It’s cold but fun and relaxing.

Heading out.

Damned paparazzi.

The mellow Deschutes.

Little rapids ahead – but they’re upstream.

You’re just gonna have to take my word for the fact that in that little highlighted box on the shore there’s a mink. It snuck out from between the rocks, dove into the water to retrieve something, and then shot back into its hidey hole.

We’re missing the Colorado Bros, who had to catch a flight, but this is Dylan (Yakima), Jeff (Yakima), Dork, Charles, Charlie, Manda and Riley.

The Ultimate 3 Day over, we make our way back up to Portland. Traveling inland through the mountains this time, we stop off at Smith Rock in Terrebonne.

Smith Rock, climbers paradise.

Mossy rock… mosses paradise.

One side…

The other.

Snow cap in the distance.

I believe that outcropping at the top is Monkey Face.

More Smith Rock.

Riley and I collecting rocks.

Emergency gear.

Marmot! Scourge of the grasslands!

A quick look back before fleeing from Riley’s petting hands.

Bunny Mommy! Bunny!

Driving into clouds.

Huge, huge thanks to Yakima for hooking us up completely during their weekend, and being such great hosts and people as well.
Additional big ups to Grandma Larkin and Grandpa Phil for allowing Riley to own them over the Ultimate Three Day Weekend.
